Weston Middle School Softball Field
Weston, MA
Project Overview
McKenzie Engineering Group, Inc. (MEG) provided design and construction phase services for the Weston Public Schools and the Weston Boosters, Inc., a non-profit organization, to redesign the layout of the existing natural turf field at the Middle School. MEG was responsible for all engineering aspects of the design, including civil site design, drainage and irrigation. The existing loam ballfield was realigned to maximize the field use as a combination softball/soccer field. All necessary utilities and infrastructure, including lights, batting cages, and walkways were also designed and installed. Special care was given to the cut and fill of the field due to the presents of the schools abandoned subsurface leaching field. The project included the design of stormwater management system to comply with the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Stormwater Management Policy to renovate the runoff and to mitigate peak rates of runoff for all storm events up to the 100-year event to ensure that post-development rates and volumes were less than those in the pre-development design condition.
